  • Please contact Peter Murphy asap if you are having any issues with your new pager, or you have not yet swapped over your old one.

Some of us went to Fiskville for skills maintenance on 10 august: article and photos.  Look for the Schmidt and Cocks name tags (didn't see a Tulipano, sadly).  But Cocks = Pohl (Tom borrowed Helen's structure gear for the day).

RRDS Update, 19 August 2013

Please find attached the latest edition of RRDS Update. The update is produced on a regular basis, with information about particular topics and project progress. The information is intended for CFA members in your District to increase their awareness of the RRDS project so feel free to distribute to Groups and Brigades as appropriate. It may also be of particular interest to your Group Comms Officers. If they would like to be added to the distribution list, please encourage them to email me.

From next week, the RRDS Update will also be accessible via the RRDS Project page on Brigades Online: http://cfaonline.cfa.vic.gov.au/mycfa/Show?pageId=radioDispatch (note: login required. Contact Geoff if you don't have one)

You are also encouraged to suggest topics for inclusion in future editions. If you think of something related to the RRDS project that might be of interest to a broader audience, please feel free to contact me as I would welcome your ideas.

Thanks for your assistance.

National Emergency Medal (NEM) Update

In November, 2012 CFA submitted a schedule to the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat (AH&AS) in Canberra, containing 4760 NEM nominations from around the State. We have currently received 3730 approved medal sets which are going through the process of having bars attached to the ribbons. The AH&AS are considering the remainder of the CFA nominations. We are working through the reconciliation of the nominations which are yet to be approved to ensure that everybody nominated has been accounted for.

UPDATE Presumptive Legislation - the Firefighters' Cancer Law

CANCER LAW - WHAT HAPPENED IN STATE PARLIAMENT

State Parliament has received a report showing it is possible for the Upper House to consider the proposed cancer compensation legislation.  For the legislation to succeed it will require the support of the major parties; so far the Greens intend to introduce proposed legislation, Labor has given its in-principle support, but the Coalition says it is awaiting the results of further research.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

If no legislation is put up for the Lower House in the meantime, the current proposed legislation may not be reintroduced into the Upper House for several months.  That is a delay, but it gives us time to talk to local MPs and the Minister about how important it is to have simpler and fairer cancer compensation for volunteers and career firefighters.
