Queen Mary 2 says thank you

Given that summer is a busy time in Australia, not only for tourists visiting our shores, but also for emergency
services, the owners of the ship – the Queen Mary 2 have this year decided to dedicate their voyage to Australia's 'summer heroes'.

Here's the really exciting bit – they have offered CFA 5 free double passes for members who have worked directly on the fires this summer to sail the Queen Mary 2 from Brisbane to Sydney in early March (that's less than two weeks away!).

Kilmore East fire class action - register a claim before 22 March 2013

Please find attached a note drafted by David Brown that highlights the need for anyone who suffered injury, or loss or damage that was not fully insured, in the Kilmore East bushfire to register a claim before 22 March 2013 so as to avoid losing the right to make certain claims, and to avoid being excluded from sharing in any settlement of the class action.

Comprehensive mental health support to members

CFA has a proud history of providing high quality mental health services to its members and their families.

It is fitting that we pause to recognise our Peer Support Program at this time, having this past couple of weeks commemorated the 4th anniversary of Black Saturday, and the 30th anniversary of the Ash Wednesday fires.  Not all members would be aware that the Program began as a grass roots movement amongst firefighters involved in Ash Wednesday, who recognised that firefighters needed emotional and psychological support to deal with the potentially traumatic elements of their roles.

Firefighting knapsaks

We have purchased two soft firefighting knapsacks for Tanker 3.  They are in the tank locker.  If they work well, we may consider purchasing more for the other appliances and get rid of the old hard ones.
